Neil specialises in international arbitration, including LCIA, ICC, CIETAC, ad hoc arbitration proceedings under the Arbitration Act 1996, ancillary or enforcement proceedings before the English Courts including obtaining freezing injunctions, and cases concerning State entities and State immunity. Neil also has experience of non-contentious Public International Law issues including international sanctions and international law obligations of States and State entities.

Neil is co-author of “International Arbitration: A Practical Guide” published by Globe Law and Business, and is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, the ICC Young Arbitrators Forum and the LCIA’s Young International Arbitration Group.

Neil also specialises in contentious intellectual property and media disputes, particularly in the music business, including contractual disputes, royalty audits and infringement of copyright and performer's rights.

Recent experience includes:

  • acting for a Japanese trading house in an LCIA arbitration concerning emission credits; 
  • acting for a Middle East drilling contractor in a SIAC arbitration concerning the hiring of rigs in Iranian waters; 
  • acting in an LCIA arbitration worth over USD 200 million concerning the ownership of property in Moscow; 
  • acting for a collection company in an IFTA arbitration concerning royalties owing from the distribution of a film in Spain; 
  • acting for a major international hotel brand in ICC arbitration proceedings concerning the premature termination of franchise agreements by franchisees; 
  • acting for Apple Corps Limited and The Beatles in disputes with EMI Records Limited over non-payment of royalties; 
  • acting for an English distributor of Chinese goods in a CIETAC arbitration against the supplier for non-delivery of goods; 
  • acting for a Romanian ex-distributor of a major multinational company in a multi-million pound LCIA arbitration for lost profits resulting from the termination of the distribution contract.
