John became a partner with Eversheds in 2005 before moving to the Abu Dhabi in September 2008. He has recently returned to our London office but is still actively involved on a number of matters in the Middle East working in conjunction with our offices in that region.
John’s particular area of expertise is dispute management. His dispute management expertise in the Middle East includes:
- advising in relation to claims totalling in excess of USD 2 billion in local Courts across the Middle East;
- advising a major Qatari developer on a $300 million dispute subject to DIAC arbitration;
- advising in relation to a +USD 100m dispute in the DIFC Courts; advising a UK based joint venture partner in a high profile shareholder dispute arising from the downturn in the real estate market in Dubai;
- advising a US based defence consultant in relation to a multi-million dollar shareholder dispute in Abu Dhabi;
- advising an Indian multi-national company in relation to a USD 30 million dispute with its employer and JV partner arising from a project in Saudi Arabia.
He has also advised on the enforcement of judgments and arbitral awards throughout the region including the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kuwait and Iraq.
In the UK, John’s experience includes:
- advising on the implementation of a vacant possession strategy on the 300 hectare site of the 2012 Olympic Games;
- acting in all five judicial review proceedings and statutory challenges relating to the Compulsory Purchase Order affecting the Olympic Site;
- advising on contentious issues arising from a number of high profile developments within the West End of London;
- acting in a number of High Court cases relating to the enforcement of agreements for lease in a substantial mixed use development in the City of London.
