Hugo is a corporate insurance partner in the financial institutions group at Eversheds. Hugo specialises in transactions (M&A, Part VIIs, distribution arrangements and risk transfer transactions) in the insurance market as well as the wider financial institutions sector.
Hugo acts for insurers, reinsurers, brokers/ intermediaries, investment banks, private equity houses and pension scheme trustees. Hugo also advises on the full range of regulatory and company law relevant to (re)insurers with a particular focus on Solvency II.
Hugo has worked on some of the largest and most complicated bulk annuity and longevity transactions to date.
Recent experience (including experience from previous firm) includes:
- Acting for a leading UK insurance company on insurance longevity swaps for UK pension schemes and associated reinsurance arrangements with global reinsurers.
- Acting for a leading UK insurance company on a large collateralised bulk purchase annuity arrangement with a UK pension scheme and associated reinsurance arrangements.
- Acting for a UK insurance company on a transfer of engagements under the Friendly Societies Act 1992.
- Acting for a UK mutual on the sale of its life insurance business.
- Advising a large commercial insurance group on the reorganisation of its European businesses, involving a number of portfolio transfers (Part VIIs) and a cross-border merger under the Cross-Border Mergers Regulations.
- Advising a leading global investment bank on a VIF monetisation of a portfolio of Spanish and Portuguese life insurance policies.
- Advising on bancassurance agreements for an international bank.
- Advising on the sale of a firm of independent financial advisors.
