Gary Delderfield is a partner in our Human Resources Practice Group. He specialises in pensions and is Head of our UK Public Sector Pensions Group.

 

He advises trustees, employers and providers on a wide range of contentious and non-contentious pension issues. Gary is also a nationally recognised expert in the area of public sector pensions law advising clients on issues across local government, central government, education, health and voluntary sectors.

His recent experience includes setting up a new final salary pension scheme, advising on a section 75 withdrawal arrangement, advising the trustees of a final salary pension scheme on the winding up of the scheme and advising a private contractor on the pension aspects of a large scale TUPE staff transfers from the public sector.

Gary is a regular speaker on pension issues and speaks on the Local Government Employers' annual 'Fundamentals' trustee training course. He has also written widely on pension issues for publications such as Pensions Week, Pensions Management, Pension Lawyer, Tolleys Pensions Law, Legal Week and PAYadvice (magazine of the Institute of Payroll Professionals). Gary is a member of the Association of Pension Lawyers and sits on the Midlands APL regional committee.

The agile and large team at Eversheds Sutherland (International) LLP advises the trustees of many household name clients on their pension schemes as well as many key employers on their pension obligations. Emma King  leads the first-rate department. Gary Delderfield  heads the national public sector pensions offering. Sarah Franklin  is vastly experienced in advising trustees and scheme sponsors on all aspects of their occupational pension schemes. Principal associate, Tom Meyrick, has particular expertise in acting on both DB and DC schemes. Also, at principal associate level, James Ellis  has significant experience in advising trustees and employers on a wide range of issues including liability management exercises and on corporate transactions.

Gary Delderfield strengthens the practice with his capabilities in public sector pension issues, whilst associate Thomas Pollitt advises clients on a range of issues, from M&A, to regulatory and constitutional matters, with particular strength in higher education. Former practice head Mark Taylor left the firm in September 2023.
