Position

Amanda sits on the firm’s Manchester Board and national Operations Board.  She also leads the firm’s publicly funded health care practice in the North West, overseeing complex NHSLA defence work, and acting in addition for a range of private clinicians and clinics. Amanda also has extensive experience in defence work for the Medical Protection Society. 

She started her career in healthcare in London, moving to the NW Regional Health Authority legal team and then in to private practice.  With over 25 years of experience in the healthcare advisory and claims field, she is well respected by clients and legal peers who recognise her depth of knowledge of healthcare organisations and governance and her commitment to the support and defence of clinicians. 

She is regularly involved in training clinicians and this year, she will speak at the BMA Medico-legal conference. 

Notable, recent personal clinical negligence results include: 

  • Trial win and costs recovery in a colorectal cancer case
  • Discontinuance and costs recovery for multi-party defendants in a claim for allegedly delayed management of a breast cancer patient; physical and severe psychiatric illness and lifetime loss of earnings. Amanda acted for all NHS and privately indemnified Defendants.
  • Discontinuance for a private client ophthalmologist arising from laser eye surgery

Discontinuance for multi-party defendants, in the pre-trial period in a complex claim by a young person with a delayed diagnosis of Crohn’s colitis and life-long colostomy

Career

Trained J Tickle & Co. London; following qualification joined North West Regional Health Authorty’s legal team; moved to Hempsons in 1995 and became a partner; joined Browne Jacobson LLP in 2013 as a partner in the Manchester office.
