Position

Matthew was promoted to partner from 1st May 2019 and has over 19 years’ experience defending employers’ and public liability claims and disease claims for a wide range of local authorities/commercial clients throughout the country. He is very highly regarded by his clients and regularly obtains trial wins, discontinuances and favourable results at JSM for them. He has secured a number of findings of fundamental dishonesty at trial for his clients.

Matthew’s technical ability is matched by his understanding of his clients and their philosophy towards fighting claims. His notable reported cases include:

Career

Matthew specialises in all aspects of employers’ and public liability claims and disease claims.  He has more than twenty years’ experience as a personal injury litigator.  He is recognised for his expertise in successfully defending and concluding claims for his clients who include local authorities across the UK, insurance companies and private companies.

He currently has seven successfully defended cases reported on lawtel relating to fundamental dishonesty, civil liability in the sporting context, employers’ liability and highway claims.

Matthew handles all aspects of disease claims to include claims arising from historic exposures to asbestos (to include mesothelioma), occupational asthma, HAVS and WRULD.
