Francis is a partner in the firm with over 30 years of experience in the London (re)insurance market.  Francis joined Browne Jacobson in February 2017 and is based in the London office.

Francis’s practice and experience covers a wide range of insurance and reinsurance sectors, mainly dealing with dispute, advice and overage issues, with particular experience in energy, professional indemnity, political risks/contract frustration, commercial property, financial institutions/D&O, pharmaceutical/product liability, contingency risks, binding authorities/MGA’s and  a range of reinsurances such as the excess of loss market .  Over the years he has been involved in a wide range of contractual disputes involving these market  types of insurances/reinsurances. He has a particularly successful practice dealing with Lloyd’s brokers E&O, and is currently advising Insurers with regard to coverholder/binder issues and problems as well as giving advice on the impact of the Insurance Act 2015. 

His practice is well known in the London Market and International Arbitration arena, where he has run arbitrations in London, Bermuda, and the US and Europe.  His dispute practice also includes significant London Commercial Court cases/disputes over the years.

Over the years Francis has been involved in some of the most important and significant insurance and reinsurance cases and authorities that have been decided either by arbitration or the London Commercial Court.

Francis has been described in Legal 500 (UK) as being “completely unflappable and is a central figure in the field of insurance and reinsurance disputes”.   

Similarly, in Chambers & Partners Guides to the World’s Leading Lawyers (UK), he is noted as “an extremely well-established figure on the insurance and reinsurance landscape”. 

Francis is listed in “The International Who’s Who of Insurance & Reinsurance Lawyers”, “Super Lawyers” and “Best Lawyers in the United Kingdom for Insurance Law work”.  All of these publications are based on independent industry research. 

Francis has, through Browne Jacobson, membership of BILA, and associate membership of the LMA and is a member of the CLLS Insurance Law Committee, and is a regular attender at IACP conferences.
