Regulatory and professional discipline.

Position

Julie Matheson is a partner leading the finance team of the regulatory and professional discipline department. Julie specialises in professional regulatory proceedings, for both financial regulators and financial professionals or firms subject to disciplinary or regulatory action. She has represented the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) for ten years and advises the IFoA on all matters relating to its disciplinary scheme, including conducting advocacy at Disciplinary Tribunal Panel hearings. She has also represented the Financial Reporting Council (FRC), advising it on high-profile regulatory prosecutions against accountants under its disciplinary scheme. She represents Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) Approved Persons and accountants or accountancy firms subject to regulation by accountancy regulators including the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW), the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA) and the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA). Julie also has significan experience in criminal private prosecutions; she acts on behalf of the Security Industry Authority (SIA) in advising on all criminal prosecutions brought on its behalf. Julie is an experienced advocate and regularly carries out advocacy at Fitness to Practise proceedings and before disciplinary tribunal panels. Julie is actively involved in training for clients and has provided comprehensive training to panels and others involved in disciplinary processes.

Career

Julie completed her training at Shepherd & Wedderburn in Scotland, where she was promoted to Associate in 2008. She moved to Kingsley Napley in 2010, where she became a partner in 2014.
