Career

Kamran specialises in all areas of planning highways and compulsory purchase law covering both contentious and non-contentious matters.

He is particularly experienced at balancing the interests of the private and public sectors, whether that is in relation to the provision of new housing, major infrastructure, regeneration projects or mixed use schemes.

Kamran particularly acts for house builders from both the public and private sectors and advises on a number of major housing schemes from the perspectives of developers, landowners and local authorities.

He provides strategic planning advice to national house builders on the delivery and integration of affordable housing and has presented seminars on the topic to Registered Providers and the Association of Chief Legal Officers.

Kamran has also advised the promoters of large scale infrastructure projects such as the New Tyne Crossing and the Intersite Bridge that spans the Central Motorway in Newcastle and led on the planning advice that secured the delivery of the flagship Newcastle Science Central.

Kamran was also the key legal adviser on planning and highway matters in relation to the delivery (nationwide) of the Government’s school building programme. His advice spanned projects for redevelopment, new build and refurbishment and extended to advice on government policy guidance and design standards

Kamran is regularly called on by professional bodies such as the RTPI and RICS to present seminars on planning law.

Ward Hadaway’s ‘excellent knowledge and level of service’ translates into a steady of flow of contentious and non-contentious instructions, which frequently play into the team’s key strength of assisting national housebuilders with residential development matters. Recently, Robin Atkin, who jointly heads the team with Neil Robson, advised the North West division of the Barratt Group and David Wilson Homes on a number of Section 106 agreements and their implications for the planning and development of 2854 homes. Atkin also excels in village green and highway matters, and acted for St Modwen Developments in defence of a village green application concerning the client’s proposed residential and leisure development. In other work, he advised Story Homes on matters pertaining to a diversion of a public footpath running across a development site in Crawcrook. Associate and commercial and transactional planning law expert Nick Gholkar assisted two landowners with the application for mineral extracting and auger mining at Druridge Bay on the Northumberland coast, and advised Darlington Borough Council - in its capacity as landowner - on a garden village development near Darlington town centre. West Cumbria Mining instructed Kamran Hyder to assist with the planning application for the development of an existing surface mine entrance for a new metallurgical coal mine.
