Career

Simon is an Associate within the Property Litigation Department and provides specialist advice to commercial landlords, tenants, private individuals, and public sector clients, including local authorities and registered providers of social housing.

Simon is experienced in both commercial and residential property litigation.

He advises in relation to commercial property disputes, including business tenancy renewals under the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954, dilapidations claims, possession proceedings and forfeiture, and break clauses.

Simon has also acted on behalf of commercial clients in respect of the management of residential property, including advice in relation to service charges. In disputes concerning residential property, Simon has advised as to the recovery of rent and service charges and possession actions in the County Court.

As a member of the Ward Hadaway Social Housing Group, Simon regularly provides assistance in relation to possession and injunction claims, and committal applications.

He is experienced in acting in housing disrepair and unlawful eviction claims, as well as advising in relation to general issues of housing management including considerations arising under the Mental Health Act and Human Rights Act.

Simon has also provided advice in relation to boundary disputes and title rectification, trespass, actions arising under the Party Wall Act and claims in relation to property ownership under the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act, as well as disputes and applications dealt with by the Residential Property Tribunal.

He regularly provides training to clients on a wide range of property-related issues and, in 2014, was elected as the Chair for the Yorkshire Housing Law Practitioners Association.
