Chris Hartmann is a partner in the Real Estate Practice Group in the New York office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. Chris was named a “Rising Star” in 2016 by Law360 and has extensive experience representing clients in all aspects of complex commercial real estate transactions, including acquisitions (note and asset), dispositions, joint ventures and financings. Chris regularly represents lenders (including funds, life companies, finance companies and real estate investors) and borrowers (including sponsors, real estate investors, funds, advisors and operating companies) in all types of commercial real estate based financing transactions (including first mortgage, construction, mezzanine, participation and preferred equity financing) for all types of asset classes (including multifamily, office, industrial, retail, single tenant, condominium, ground lease and hotel assets).

The firm's client roster includes sponsors, sovereign wealth funds, pensions organizations and other institutional investors. Christopher Hartmann advised Starwood Capital Group on its $835m sale of 16 multifamily assets and interests in REIT entities to CapitaLand International. Jonathan Schechter acted for GAW Capital Partners on a $225m loan as part of a $650m syndicated leasehold financing for the acquisition and redevelopment of a multi-use hotel property in New York. Scott Berger specializes in the private equity aspects of domestic and international real estate and real estate-related transactions. Another recent highlight included representing Marriott Vacations Worldwide on its $4.6bn acquisition of ILG. Chicago-based Joshua Hanna acted for First State Super on its investment in a $1bn joint venture with Lendlease to develop and operate multifamily residential rental properties in various US cities. Rachel Brown, who is also based in Chicago, advised VĂ€rde Partners on the $605m sale of its interest in the Utah ski mountains. Chicago-based Andrew Small is also recommended. Justin Elliott joined as partner from Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP and John Goldman joined as partner from Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP.
