Tanner De Witt is delighted to announce the promotion of Veronica Chan and Tim Au to the position of Partner with the firm, with effect from Sunday 1 January 2023.

The promotion of Veronica and Tim brings the firm’s number of partners to 16 and is testament to the dedication they have shown to the development of the firm as a whole.

Both Veronica and Tim are members of the firm’s Restructuring and Insolvency practice, Veronica joined as an associate in 2015 and Tim trained with the firm and then joined the department on qualification in 2014. This leading practice has been highly ranked by various legal publications and has once again made the list as the only Hong Kong-centred law firm with the Global Restructuring Review 100. We are confident that the promotion of Veronica and Tim demonstrates that the firm is committed to continuing this success through the next generation of lawyers.

The promotion also shows the firm’s development, with both Veronica and Tim regularly working with other departments within the firm.

Veronica acts and advises in various high-profile matters from bankruptcy to cross border insolvency issues. She acts for liquidators, receivers, creditors and directors. She also advises and acts in general commercial litigation including shareholders’ disputes, trademark disputes, commercial and contractual disputes. Veronica is a Mandarin speaking Hong Kong lawyer who has a strong network of contacts in Mainland China and regularly works on matters involving the Mainland. For a number of years, Veronica has been highly active enhancing and promoting the professional status of females within the insolvency field and is the current Asia Regional Vice Director of the Hong Kong Network of IWIRC (International Women’s Insolvency & Restructuring Confederation) and won the IWIRC Rising Star award in 2021, an international award.

Veronica remarks: “I joined Tanner De Witt in April 2015 and was promoted to Consultant in June 2022. Now I have climbed another step up the ladder within half a year. I am truly excited and thankful to all the Partners and staff members at Tanner De Witt for all their support, patience and guidance throughout these years. I am also grateful to have clients who always have trust in me. Without them, my path would not be smooth to get me where I am. I look forward to the new journey with you all.”

Tim joined the firm as a trainee in 2012 and it is satisfying to see another one of the firm’s trainees being promoted to partner. His focus is on restructuring and insolvency matters with a particular focus on contentious cases. He regularly advises insolvency officeholders and corporate clients on all aspects of restructuring and insolvency issues including recovery of assets in insolvency estates, recognition of foreign appointments and foreign restructuring processes in Hong Kong, debt recovery matters and a wide range of court applications in relation to bankruptcies and liquidations. He has a strong interest in schemes of arrangement with cross border elements and advises on contentious scheme matters. Tim has extensive experience in trials concerning a variety of litigation matters.

Tim remarks: ‘I joined Tanner De Witt 10 years ago as a trainee and it is surreal to be able to now call my mentors partners. I was only able to achieve this with the remarkable support from the partners and staff at Tanner De Witt and the clients and contacts who have entrusted matters to me. Thank you. It is truly an honour for me to be part of this family and to grow together.’

Robin Darton, Partner and Co-Head of Restructuring and Insolvency said: “I am extremely happy to see Veronica and Tim promoted to partner. Having worked closely with them both for a number of years, I know first-hand the level of dedication they both give to the business of the firm and to the legal and insolvency communities. I am confident that their promotion will help the firm go on to greater successes in the future.”
