Messrs Steven Thiru & Sudhar Partnership is pleased to announce that Ms Tania Kat-Lin Edward is admitted as a Partner of the Firm with effect from 1st July 2022.
Tania holds an LL.B (Hons) degree (First Class) from the University of Reading and is a member of the Inner Temple. Tania was admitted to practice as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in November 2015.
Tania has a broad commercial, administrative and constitutional law practice, with a particular focus on tax and regulatory proceedings. Tania’s practice includes representing both local and international clients in contentious matters.
A key focus area of Tania’s practice is tax law. Tania has appeared for taxpayers before the Special Commissioners of Income Tax in s. 99 Tax Appeals as well as before the High Court in judicial review applications, and in appeals arising therefrom. She regularly conducts seminars and talks on issues of tax law to accounting firms, companies and associations. Tania has written articles in the Malaysian Tax Guardian on a regular basis. She is a contributor to Veerinder on Taxation (5th Edition) (2019) Wolters Kluwer, Malaysia and is presently updating the 6th edition thereof.
Tania’s commercial practice involves disputes pertaining to company law, insurance and reinsurance, banking and insolvency, and civil fraud. In these matters, Tania has appeared as Counsel and co-Counsel in the High Court and Court of Appeal acting for clients in various industries across multiple jurisdictions.
With regard to regulatory proceedings, Tania acts for regulators in disciplinary proceedings and in applications for judicial review of the disciplinary decisions as well as appeals arising therefrom. Her advisory practice to regulators involves complex issues with wide ramifications.
