The Law Faculty of the Higher School of Economics, a leading center for legal education in Russia and abroad, announces the opening of Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners’ foundation department.

Foundation departments are ran by the university through a partnership with leading market and industry players. This ensures the highest standards of education, whilst incorporating best practices of companies within a particular sector. Ultimately, the students’ education is likely to better meet socio-economic needs, whilst businesses receive graduates with truly demanded competencies and skills.

A leading Russian law Firm’s foundation department will allow the law students to directly engage with professionals recognized in the Russian and foreign markets, consolidating theoretical knowledge through practice. As a result, the next generation of lawyers will be able to effectively apply skills required in the real legal world.

“The success of our Firm is down to the deep knowledge of the law combined with an understanding of the practical issues faced by our clients. The Higher School of Economics prepares the Russian business elite according to the highest international standards. In our department, our Firm’s lawyers will help students see legal issues through the lens of practical business needs, gaining an understanding of what is at the core of the business’ decision making process. This will make the students even more attractive to prospective employers. Denis Arkhipov, a brilliant disputes lawyer, Ph.D. in Law, and co-head of EPAM Litigation practice, will lead this important initiative, having had his candidacy approved by the HSE Academic Council,” said Dimitry Afanasiev, Chairman of Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners.

“Today, when information comes at us at an unprecedented speed, textbook knowledge alone is not enough. To find truly unique solutions, it is crucial to be able to structure and analyse the information received. This is what distinguishes a simple lawyer from a true professional,” noted Denis Arkhipov. “It is a great honour to work alongside a leading Russian university. The new department is aimed at ensuring that in addition to acquiring high-quality knowledge, students learn to practically apply the acquired skills, interacting directly with our Russian and English legal experts. The unique practice expertise that our lawyers boast will become an invaluable resource for the new generation of professionals,” he adds.

Classes at the new department will be held in the format of short courses and master classes on various topics. At the end of each academic year, a large-scale student competition, ran in the form of a mock trial, will be held. Upon completion of the course, successful students will be offered an internship at Egorov Puginsky Afanasiev & Partners.
