On December 1, 2023 the Canton of Basel-Stadt issued CHF 105 m digital bonds. Basler Kantonalbank acted as lead manager. The digital bonds will be listed on SDX Trading AG.
The SDX infrastructure, which is based on distributed ledger technology (DLT), enables the issuance and trading of tokenized securities. As part of a pilot project, the Swiss National Bank is issuing digital central bank money for financial institutions (so-called wholesale Central Bank Digital Currency, wCBDC) on this infrastructure for the first time. This is one of the world’s first pilot projects for processing real transactions in digital central bank money.
