NEW DELHI, 28 April 2026 – Chandhiok & Mahajan (“C&M”) is acting as legal counsel to JSW Steel Limited (JSW Steel) on its proposed joint venture with South Korean steel manufacturer, POSCO.
JSW Steel and POSCO have signed a joint venture agreement to build a 6 mtpa greenfield integrated steel plant in Odisha. The project, which includes steelmaking, hot rolling, and cold rolling/coating, will provide new product opportunities in India’s growing market.
The joint venture also contemplates integration with POSCO’s 1.8 mtpa downstream unit in Pune, Maharashtra, to foster strong synergies, strengthen strategic relationships, and facilitate future collaborations.
Legal Advisory
C&M is providing comprehensive legal support to JSW Steel on competition and regulatory workstreams on this complex, multi-jurisdictional transaction.
The firm’s Competition and Regulatory Practice is assisting JSW Steel in procuring the requisite antitrust approvals, including antitrust clearance from the Competition Commission of India and across other jurisdictions. The closing of the transaction is subject to the receipt of relevant anti-trust approvals and completion of other conditions precedent set out in the transaction documents.
