Ed Friedman regularly represents Fortune 300 companies in unfair competition, employee-raiding and misappropriation of trade secrets cases. He has extensive experience prosecuting noncompete covenants and unfair competition claims, and with obtaining injunctions to prevent employee raiding, unfair competition or the use or disclosure of trade secrets. Drawing on his experience, he is able to assess his clients’ situations quickly and accurately and move forward with fine-tuned strategies. Ed is focused and aggressive in his prosecution, taking a targeted approach and proactively developing effective and efficient solutions.

Baker & Hostetler LLP handles trade secrets cases arising from employee moves as well as the acquisition and sale of businesses. Orlando-based Joyce Ackerbaum Cox co-heads the practice and is particularly strong in employee movement issues. Also leading the team is Houston-based Edward Friedman, who is skilled in prosecuting non-compete covenants and unfair competition claims. Patrick Muldowney  also works from the Orlando office and advised the homecare agency Almost Family on an issue surrounding a former employee who violated a non-compete clause by working for a competition. In New York, John Siegal acted for FTI Consulting in litigation against Berkeley Research Group alleging trade secrets theft and contractual violations. Houston based Drew Tipton is also recommended.

Led by David Grant in Washington DC, the practice at Baker & Hostetler LLP is experienced in handling multiparty employment disputes, class actions and individual private-plaintiff actions. A team comprising New York-based Amy Traub, Houston's Dennis Duffy and Patrick Muldowney in Orlando defended Cost Containment Group in a class action enforcement lawsuit filed by the EEOC on behalf of a class of former employees accusing the company of religious discrimination. Melissa Siebert in Chicago obtained a favorable judgement for Southwest Airlines after plaintiffs alleged that Southwest violated the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act. The group also handles a variety of matters for McDonald's. Other recommended individuals are Eric Barnum in Atlanta, Joel Griswold, Kevin Shaughnessy and Joyce Ackerbaum Cox in Orlando, Edward Friedman and Drew Tipton in Houston, as well as the Los Angeles-based Margaret Rosenthal. M. Scott McIntyre in Cincinnati, Gregory Mersol and Martin Wymer in Cleveland, Jennifer Edwards in Columbus and Peter Fischer in Washington DC are also names to note. The Atlanta office was strengthen by the arrival of Jason D’Cruz, Brian Harris and Mark Zisholtz in April 2018 from Morris, Manning & Martin, LLP. Louis Cannon in Washington DC and Shareef Farag in Los Angeles made partner in January 2018.
