Position

 Rob has worked at Weightmans for 25 years. Becoming partner in 2002 and then Head of Insurance in 2018, his career within the insurance sector has focused mostly on composite insurers and their claims and advisory requirements – working for insurers and their insureds, TPAs, public bodies and diverse commercial entities.
Rob is Client Lead on the firm’s Innovation Group, harnessing process and technology to create and deliver solutions that offer true value for customers. The group has spearheaded the firm’s collaboration with leading academics to understand how computer systems can engage in the process of reasoning in the legal arena, testing proof of concepts with the aim to create a truly unique digital solution which will change the way legal services are delivered.
Rob is also a member of the Forum of Insurance Lawyers (FOIL).

Following the absorption of RadcliffesLeBrasseur, Weightmans LLP has significantly expanded its geographic spread and depth in defendant healthcare and personal injury. Dave Cottam maintains his strong position as a top defence counsel in catastrophic personal injury claims and is experienced in acting in claims arising out of motor, employer’s liability, public authority, and police cases. Andrew Clarke represents numerous local authorities, police and fire services in relation to personal injury claims, and increasingly dealing with data breach claims causing psychological injuries. Managing associate Asad Hadadi continues to carve out a niche in claims such flooding, social care, assault, data breach claims arising out of misuse of private information and claims of pure economic loss. Other key specialists include Clare Malpus and Sarah Ezzat for motor, public and employers liability. Based in Liverpool, Rob Williams is the claims director.

The ‘technically gifted‘ team at Weightmans LLP, notable for its longstanding working relationship with the MIB, has broad experience across a range of catastrophic injury work. Claims director Rob Williams leads the team. David Holt specialises in non-indemnity insurance work and catastrophic injury claims, while Will Quinn covers the liability insurers’ wing of the practice, with clients including Zurich and AIG. Also key are brain and spinal injury expert Emerson Wallwork, and Louise Mutch, who focuses on large loss and technical claims.

Weightmans draws upon the strengths of the broader national practice to provide comprehensive assistance for clients across a range of sectors. Charles Heppenstall is the regional practice head for Leeds, bringing his particular specialisms in serious injury with chronic pain and invisible injury claims to the group. Heppenstall works alongside national head for local authorities, Helen Brown, whose expertise is in social care, bullying, harassment, and stress, and technical lead for large loss, Lindsay Staddon, who has extensive experience relating to the full spectrum of claims. Blaise Smith is also of note, working exclusively for insurers in catastrophic injury claims and with a track record in fatal accidents and major product liability mandates. National insurance practice head Rob Williams oversees matters from the Liverpool office.
