Zurich, Switzerland, 9 September 2025

ETH Zurich has enacted a revised policy for ETH spin-offs and start-ups and for the first time implemented a dedicated Equity and Licensing Policy. With these measures, ETH establishes a transparent and founder-friendly framework designed to foster entrepreneurial activities of ETH members and enhance technology transfer to the public. In particular, founders can opt for an express licensing process with standard terms to expedite the launch of their venture. The revised framework also grants founders structured access to “E3“, ETH’s entrepreneurship ecosystem which offers mentorship, training programs, infrastructure access and investor networking opportunities.

Bär & Karrer acted as legal advisor to ETH regarding the new regulations. The team was led by Luca Jagmetti and included Markus Wang (IP), Markus Schott (Public Law), Lukas Bründler and Björn Wegberg (both Corporate/M&A).
