Competition & Regulatory

Senior Associate

As a senior associate with the firm’s Commercial and Regulatory practice, Marika Grunte focus on competition law. Her main mission with Sorainen is to share competition law knowledge and experience with our clients in order to reduce competition risks in their daily business activities, as well as to find the most appropriate solutions once risks have been identified.

Complex cases with high stakes. Marika view competition law as one of the most exciting areas of legal practice. Most cases, regardless of whether they are related to cartels or abuse of a dominant position, are not straightforward, while the stakes are always high because of the considerable financial sanctions imposed in cases involving breach.

Competition Council background. Previous experience at the Latvian Competition Council as deputy head of their legal department and as head of the cartel department provided an extremely useful background to her current daily professional working experience.

Merger control. M&A deals often require approval from the competition authorities. Marika Grunte has assisted clients in numerous merger cases before the Competition Council, and her experience includes some of the largest and strategically most significant transactions in Latvia and the Baltics within key industries.
