Career

As head of the firm’s Competition and Regulatory practice in Latvia, Ieva Andersone’s focuses on the big picture and strategy in complex regulatory, competition law and intellectual property issues.

IP advice and litigation. In addition to having successfully helped many clients protect against infringements of their intellectual property and misuse of their creative work, Ieva has achieved revocation of infringing trademarks in disputes before Latvia’s Industrial Property Board of Appeal, and a positive result for a famous Latvian poet in a copyright dispute.

GDPR implementation and advice. One area of her practice lies in managing complex GDPR implementation projects for clients in such industries as consumer lending, real estate management, international trading companies, and medical institutions. Another is spreading privacy awareness through lectures and presentations on GDPR, with special focus on communication and marketing. Ieva is especially proud of creating GDPR guidelines for the Latvian association of communication agencies.

Pharmaceutical sector regulations. Ieva has advised many pharmaceutical companies and industry associations on applying Latvian regulations and rules on compensated medicines, advertising pharmaceuticals, and relationships with patients and governmental organizations.

Competition law advice. In advising clients on competition law, her focus is on compliance and prevention. Ieva has assisted clients to achieve a settlement in infringement proceedings, and has organized competition law training for companies in the IT, insurance, food, and pharmaceutical sectors.

Media law and creative industries. For over a dozen years Ieva has served as the Latvian correspondent for the European Audiovisual Observatory newsletter on audiovisual media law, and also acted as the Latvian expert in surveys on such topics as film funding, European audiovisual works and media regulatory bodies. In addition, she has successfully defended TV broadcasters in defamation litigation, provided pro bono advice to the Latvian Association of Journalists on creating a media ombudsman institution, as well as consulting authors and creative individuals on legal matters.
