Position
Alastair has significant experience across the full spectrum of property matters. He advises numerous clients who hold extensive and diverse property interests in Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and Great Britain. Alastair’s practice encompasses: acquisition and disposal of all aspects of commercial property (including brown field sites); commercial leasing (for both landlord and tenant); advising on contentious property matters; and negotiating warranties and indemnities in connection with acquisition and disposal of industrial going concerns.
Alastair has strong experience of energy-sector property transactions in Northern Ireland, acting for clients such as Viridian and Simple Power. Additionally, he also has in depth knowledge of the healthcare sector, having acted for the majority of the national and regional nursing/respite home providers. Alastair has acted as a consultant to the Environmental Policy Division of the DoE, where he advised on the drafting of environmental legislation. He is a former Secretary of the Environmental and Planning Law Association for Northern Ireland and is a member of Northern Irish working group of United Kingdom Environmental Law Association (UKELA). Alastair is an occasional lecturer on the issue of Contaminated Land. Most recently he has been one of a limited number of in-camera special advisers to SIB/INI on issues relating to the Northern Irish office market.

Recent work for Arthur Cox Belfast’s property team includes advising developers and investors in the retail, residential and student housing sectors on a range of matters, as well as handling insolvency-related property sales and disposals. In a highlight for the team, practice head Alastair Todd advised Coca-Cola HBC NI on disposing part of its holding in Tullynacross to investment company Unicorn Asset Management; Todd also led the advice to the St Francis Group on the acquisition of a 24-acre site formerly occupied by the Hilden Mill complex. Other clients include Neptune Group, Four Seasons Healthcare, Marathon Asset Management and Tullett Prebon. Rowan White is another name to note.
