Cleaver Fulton Rankin’s ‘extremely efficient and knowledgeable’ private client team has expertise across a wide range of matters, including disputes in relation to wills and estates, related tax matters, estate planning, controllership issues and the administration of high-value trusts. The group frequently represents high-net-worth clients in multimillion-pound matters and advises charity clients on estate administration issues. Recent work includes disputes over the validity of wills, the protection of assets for vulnerable recipients and providing cross-border tax advice to high-net-worth clients with assets kept in different jurisdictions. Michael Graham leads the team, which includes managing director Jonathan Forrester, who is highly recommended for his contentious probate and trusts litigation expertise. Elliott Duffy Garrett’s private client practice is ‘outstanding in terms of both technical expertise and ethos of client care’. Millar McCall Wylie LLP’s ‘very proficient’ private client team has notable strength in handling wills, tax advice and administration of estates, involving both domestic and overseas assets. The group acts for a range of clients including high-net-worth individuals and professional bodies. Other key areas of instruction include the administration of trusts and succession planning. The ‘very thorough and extremely knowledgeable’ Conor Wylie heads the team.

Arthur Cox Belfast assists high-profile individuals with a range of private client matters, including the administration of estates, the creation of trusts, succession planning and substantial probate matters, with many cases involving cross-jurisdictional assets. Corporate lawyers Alan Taylor and Lynsey Mallon are the key names in the team, and corporate associate Richard Armstrong is also recommended.

Carson McDowell’s private client team provides 'an excellent service and can be relied upon to address matters in a timely fashion.' The group assists high-net-worth clients with non-contentious and contentious high-value estate planning, often in the multimillion-pound range and frequently involving financial provision claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) (NI) Order 1979. The practice is noted for its extensive experience in representing trustees in high-profile trust administrations. Other matters handled by the team include registering enduring powers of attorney and providing tax advice. Practice head Neil Bleakley has ‘a proactive approach’ and displays ‘thorough knowledge’. John McKee Solicitors is well known for its full-service private client offering, with a key focus on representing high-net-worth individuals. Past instructions for the practice have included contentious probate, inheritance tax and the administration of estates. The group also has expertise in advising on elderly client care and protection work. Gerard Small leads the team.

Mills Selig has a solid track record in advising clients on estate planning, trusts and wills, and assisting high-net-worth individuals with the administration of estates. Real estate is a key area of instruction for the group, which has seen an uptick in protection work, including registering enduring powers of attorney. The ‘very knowledgeable’ senior associate Fiona McFall  leads the team; she garners praise for her ‘excellent work ethic’ and is noted for her experience in matters involving wills and the administration of estates. Michael Hamill moved to Pinsent Masons Belfast LLP  in 2017.
