Praised for its ‘in-depth knowledge’, the 11-partner team at Bech-Bruun handles regulatory and contentious matters along with acquisitions and financings for public and private entities, utilities, municipalities, investors and project developers. ‘Highly experienced’ practice head Per Hemmer assisted Nord Stream 2 with the preparation of the Danish construction permit and the environmental impact assessment related to the construction of two gas pipelines. Jakob Østervang is recommended as an ‘excellent lawyer’.

Bruun & Hjejle’s energy department is known for its expertise in regulatory and litigious matters, as well as for transactions in the energy sector. Recent mandates involved the six-partner team, led by Nicolaj Kleist, act on behalf of Statnett in a dispute related to reserved system services of a power cable connection and also assist HMN Naturgas with the sale of its trading company to SEAS-NVE and Eniig.

Horten fields a ten-partner team that regularly acts for Danish and international suppliers, municipalities and private companies in all energy-related matters. Key instructions included the team assisting Centrica with the acquisition of Neas Energy and advising HOFOR on the development of onshore wind farm projects. The team is headed by Søren Hornbæk Svendsen and includes the renowned Klavs Gravesen.

Clients value the ‘very good sector knowledge’ at Kromann Reumert. The seven-partner group, led by Anders Stubbe Arndal, stands out for its experience in handling transactions in the energy sector. Recent mandates involved the team assisting Eniig and SEAS-NVE with the purchase of HMN Naturgas and advising Danmarks Eksportkreditfond on the financing of an offshore wind farm.

Described as having ‘a unique understanding of the client’s business’, Plesner’s energy department has a strong position within the oil and gas sector and also advises on renewable energy projects. ‘Very strong’ Niklas Korsgaard Christensen led the advice for DONG E&P on its upstream oil and gas project and assisted Stadtwerke München with the construction tender for a wind project. The team welcomed Mikkel Falkenberg, previously with Mærsk Oil.

DLA Piper Denmark delivers ‘high-quality service’ for matters related to oil and gas, renewable energies, offshore activities and utility services. Under the leadership of Jacob Christiansen, the group assisted NRGi with the acquisition of wind turbines and advised the consortium behind Maabjerg Energy on the set-up of a bioethanol plant.

The three-partner team at Gorrissen Federspiel is best known for handling litigious and transactional matters for clients in the energy and utilities sector. Highlights include advising Allianz Global Investors on the acquisition of a Danish solar park and assisting Shell International with its divestment of Dansk Shell. Practice head Michael Meyer is recommended.

Njord Law Firm regularly acts for international clients, such as Vattenfall and EWII, in energy-related disputes and transactions in Northern Europe. The team consists of Thomas Ryhl, who is specialised in regulatory matters, and litigator Steffen Hebsgaard Muff, as well as Claas Thöle and Stefan Reinel, both qualified lawyers in Denmark and Germany.

At WSCO Advokatpartnerselskab, ‘very good and responsiveBo Sandroos heads the three-partner team that has strengths across the oil and gas and renewable energy sectors. The team recently advised on the development and operation of a Danish solar park. The group has been strengthened through the hire of Carsten Tolderlund from energy company Noreco.

Kåre Stolt heads the three-partner team at Accura Advokatpartnerselskab that is known for handling energy transactions and advising Danish and international companies from the oil and gas and renewable energy sectors. Notable clients include E.ON, Ørsted and Vattenfall.

Lassen Ricard has particular strengths in geothermal drilling projects. Practice head Henrik Schütze advises clients on contentious and non-contentious matters; in a recent highlight he successfully defended Ross Engineering against claims from a Danish utility company concerning the abandoned Viborg geothermal project.
