Mauricio Halpern leads the Banking and Finance practice group in Chile, and has wide practical experience in the restructuring, leveraged finance, acquisition financing, project and corporate finance areas, both nationally and internationally.

Also, considering his vast experience as an in-house lawyer, Mauricio Co-heads the Compliance group, assisting clients in the development and implementation of regulatory compliance models, according to Act 20,393 and its amendments, preparation of policies, procedures, reporting channels, risk matrixes, and control panels, providing them with the best practices and market standards.

His extended experience includes also Corporate and Capital Markets, as well as Insurance. Mauricio has stood out by leading the processes of first issue stock placement, public offering of shares, bond issuance, and trade bills. He has actively participated providing strategic advice to boards of directors and senior management of public and private corporations, both local and foreign, in addition to collaborating in corporate restructuring processes, dispute resolution and complex negotiation between shareholders.

In connection with Insurance & Reinsurance, Mauricio advises foreign clients in their establishment in Chile in compliance with local special regulation, insurance’s liquidation and claims, among others.

The scope of the team’s expertise includes regulatory compliance assessments, the implementation of risk-matrix compliance control mechanisms; designing Law 20,393-related compliance programs; criminal liability prevention models; compliance certification processes; and corporate compliance-related internal investigations. The practice is co-headed by corporate and capital markets specialist Diego Noguera, who routinely identifies potential conflicts of interest between private entities and public agencies; and Mauricio Halpern, whose recent experience includes assisting Finning Chile with a corporate criminal liability compliance programme. At associate level, in addition to her dispute resolution practice, Andrea de la Vega advises companies on criminal liability-related regulatory compliance matters.

Chile > Dispute resolution: litigation

DLA Piper Chile fields a five-strong team that is experienced in high-profile cases before both the judicial courts and arbitral tribunals; its disputes coverage includes commercial and civil matters, and defending constitutional and regulated rights. The firm also houses sector specialisms in technology, food and transportation. Former counsel and practice head Macarena Iturra left to establish her own firm in January 2022, leaving banking and finance partner Mauricio Halpern as interim head; with key support provided by criminal trial counsel Ignacio Schwerter, and associates Vesna Torrens and Andrea de la Vega, who both act in dispute resolution and civil litigation.
