Position

Karen is Chairman and Director at Cleaver Fulton Rankin and specialises in planning and environmental law, liquor licensing and public law. She advises a wide range of clients, particularly in the mining, waste, energy and aviation sectors on their development proposals, including advice on environmental impact assessment and habitats issues. She also advises on regulatory issues arising from on-going manufacturing and processing operations. Karen also has extensive experience in the judicial review and liquor licensing courts.

Career

Karen completed her training at Cleaver Fulton Rankin, qualifying in 1994. She was made a Director in the firm in 2001. She became a legal associate of the Royal Town Planning Institute in 1999.

Karen is a member of Environmental and Planning Law Association for Northern Ireland (EPLANI); United Kingdom Environmental Law Association (UKELA); and the Society of Licensing Practitioners (SLP).

Education

Karen studied English and French Law at the University of Essex, graduating with an LLB in 1991. As part of her undergraduate studies she completed a Diploma in French Law at Université Jean Moulins, Lyons in 1990.

Karen graduated from the University of Cambridge in 1992 with an LLM in International Law, before gaining her Certificate in Professional Legal Studies from Queen’s University Belfast in 1994.
