Position

Natela Otaridze is an Associate at Dentons' Tbilisi Office. She is the member of Litigation and Dispute Resolution group.

Career

Natela focuses on IPT, litigation, regulatory, tax and customs. She has advised and assisted various companies, in registering and defending their IP rights in Georgia, as well as participated in various litigations, including employment, inheritance and land rights.

She also focuses on franchise transactions, personal data issues, regulatory issues related to the telecommunications, advertisement, pharmaceutical industry, betting and gaming business. In addition, she has advised various companies including international retail and financial companies regarding complex Georgian taxation issues.

Prior to joining DLA Piper, Natela was in-house counsel and head of the legal departments of several prominent Georgian banks (Tbiluniversal Bank, Absolute Bank and Cartu Bank). Natela also received specialized training in banking law and undertook practical training at Bankakademie in Frankfurt and Deutsche Kreditbank AG in Dresden, Germany. In 2010, Natela worked as a seconded associate with DLA Piper (US) LLP in New York, NY.

The corporate team at Dentons Georgia LLC works with international companies on matters including acquisitions, company reorganisation and competition law. Avto Svanidze leads the corporate practice, and has extensive experience in international M&A transactions. He recently led the team that advised Georgian telecoms operator Silknet on the $153m acquisition of Geocell, the second-largest mobile operator in the country. The team also included senior associate Irakli Pipia and associate Natela Otaridze, who both advised the Bank of Georgia Group on its reorganisation into banking and non-banking sector entities. Although working predominantly in the banking and finance team, associate Sopho Mebonia has assisted on shares transactions, including the $4m acquisition of a minority stake in a hydropower project company by Schulze Global Investments. Senior counsel Ted Jonas offers expert advice on potential joint venture agreements, while senior associate Mariam Vashakidze, formerly of BLB (Business Legal Bureau), focuses on project finance and commercial transactions.

Dispute resolution

The dispute resolution team at Dentons Georgia LLC is well known for its 'good knowledge and experience', and 'meticulous attention to detail'. Otar Kipshidze and counsel Zurab Kiliptari are 'reliable, easily accessible, responsive and always open for critical discussions'. The pair represented BP in a $13m patent infringement claim, and are assisting the same client with rights of way disputes relating to its three pipeline developments in Georgia. Associate Natela Otaridze assisted Kipshidze in successfully representing Estonian transport company Spacecom in civil proceedings against the state-owned Georgian Railway over alleged compensation claims.
