Otar leads the firm’s dispute resolution practice in Georgia, having extensive experience in litigation, energy, banking and finance and corporate law. Otar has advised on a number of key projects in Georgia, including major oil and gas transportation projects, and has a track record of successful resolution of numerous disputes in Georgian courts at various levels.

Prior to joining the Tbilisi office, Otar was a Managing Partner and Partner at DLA Piper. Earlier he was Senior Associate with the legacy firms: Ernst & Young’s legal practice in Georgia and GCG Law Office. Prior to moving to private practice, he worked as General Counsel to leading Georgian commercial bank TBC Bank. Otar also was a visiting foreign attorney with Houston-based Baker Botts.

The dispute resolution practice at Dentons covers a wide range of areas, from real estate and compensation claims, to hybrid administrative and court proceedings regarding a variety of privatisations and administrative matters, tax and customs matters, competition law, intellectual property, and general commercial litigation. The practice was also recently  involved in the first competition law cases in Georgian courts. The team is led by Otar Kipshidze and represents clients in cross-border cases as well as at all levels of the Georgian court system. Counsel Zurab Kiliptari is another key name.

Dentons assists clients in acquiring all types of real estate in multiple types of transactions, from purchasing greenfield and brownfield sites, to leasing and land use transactions as well as complex development projects for hotels, university campuses and office spaces. In terms of projects, the team is active in oil and gas as well as hydropower. The joint heads of practice are Otar Kipshidze and Avto Svanidze. Senior associate Irakli Pipia is regarded for his work assisting with the acquisition and transfer of rights to land plots and buildings, the lease of office premises, the registration of rights to immovable and movable property, pre-acquisition due diligence, and licenses and permits.
