Matthew Gough is Partner and office location head for the Cardiff offices.

Matthew specialises in commercial law, particularly in the areas of intellectual property (IP), information technology (IT) and commercial contracts. Matthew is rated as a Band 1 Leader in his field by Chambers Guide To The Legal Profession which states that Matthew's team is "meticulous and immensely practical" and that he is "incredibly dedicated to serving his clients' interests" and he is also noted in the Legal 500. 

Matthew and his team have a particular focus on advising clients on the implications of consumer law on their businesses and he leads Eversheds Commercial Contract practice in this area of law in the United Kingdom.

His experience includes advising a variety of clients including household names on consumer protection issues and on e-commerce matters, including distance selling legislation and he is involved in drafting commercial agreements, including agency, distribution, supply, standard terms and conditions and consultancy.

He also has extensive experience in advising upon all types of IT-related legal issues, including software licensing and development; system procurement, maintenance and outsourcing including offshore arrangements throughout the world.

Matthew regularly advises on IP, including the existence, development, ownership and exploitation of such rights.

He has a particular interest in the education, financial services, telecommunications and sports sectors and has a number of clients in each sector.

Matthew is a regular speaker on IT, IP and general commercial law. He was involved in delivering the Intellectual Property elective of the Legal Practice Course at Cardiff University Law School and is a guest speaker with a number of organisations including Wales Trade International and UK Trade and Investment and teaches on the University of Bath's MBA and the University Of Bristol's Msc. He is a regular contributor to BBC radio news programmes.
