David recently joined the Firm's Energy & Infrastructure Finance team. He was previously a partner and infrastructure M&A finance lead at international law firm, Herbert Smith Freehills. He is a highly experienced professional who has advised on over £30bn-worth of energy and infrastructure financings and refinancings in recent years. His experience includes transactions across a wide range of infrastructure and energy assets, including airports, rail, rolling stock, roads, gas and electricity distribution and transmission, pipelines, storage, district heating, fibre, smart metering, renewables, interconnectors and water

Herbert Smith Freehills LLP is well-known for its abilities handling key financing and M&A in relation to renewable, conventional and nuclear energy both domestically and in emerging markets. Power and renewables is the focus of experienced team member Sarah Pollock, who focuses on these areas in relation to significant acquisitions and project developments. Silke Goldberg also has expertise in these sectors with a focus on climate change liability and litigation, whilst Matthew Job is finance-focused. In addition, the team is well-equipped to handle new tech in the sector, involving carbon storage and power generation, hydrogen, batteries and energy storage matters. The global co-lead of energy Lewis McDonald also leads the firm’s London-based power practice. Notably, Dhananjaya Chak, who has experience handling energy acquisitions in international contexts, was promoted to partner in May 2022. David Wyles departed to Eversheds Sutherland (International) LLP in April 2023.
The practice at Eversheds Sutherland (International) LLP is adept in all aspects of energy, from drafting and negotiation to mergers and acquisitions in cases involving such areas of focus as tidal energy, battery storage and interconnectors. David Wyles joined the practice in April 2023 from Herbert Smith Freehills LLP. Further team changes to note include the departures of Andrew Duckworth to an in-house position in November 2022 and of Greg Falkof to Mishcon de Reya LLP in December 2022. The team is led by Stephen Hill. Robert Broom has joined from Ernst & Young LLP.
