The Lex 100 Verdict

Eversheds Sutherland is an 'international firm but with a local focus'. Training contracts are offered across England and Wales and the firm has 'great clients in the regions', which allows trainees to undertake high-profile work regardless of their office location. Several recruits had fond memories of the vacation scheme, during which time they experienced an 'inclusive and energetic workplace' and an 'atmosphere of collegiate fun'. Eversheds Sutherland is 'rapidly growing, in terms of global reach, brand strength, quality of work and innovative expertise', but this 'exciting growth does not come at the expense of the firm's culture'. The 'friendly yet intelligent and hard-working people' foster a culture of openness and are 'always happy to have a conversation regardless of seniority'. A Lex 100 Winner medal has been awarded for approachability. And, whilst there is 'close supervision', by the same token trainees have the 'autonomy to take matters forward and not be micro-managed'. Complaints centred on the 'not very efficient' IT system, 'feeling like you're not listened to when it comes to the allocation and content/experience of seats' and the 'limited international secondments in relation to the number of trainees'. 'Very late evenings/early mornings' and 'weekend working' were also begrudged. In contrast, 'attending client offices for a signing on a major deal which made the national news' and 'completing a multi-jurisdictional reorganisation' were exciting. Some trainees counted international secondments – an 'amazing opportunity to expand my network and experience another country' – among their best moments, earning the firm another Lex 100 Winner medal in this category. For a 'very international' firm where trainees are 'offered high-quality work, trusted to complete it and have their opinion valued', take a closer look at Eversheds Sutherland.
