Chile > Competition and antitrust
(Hall of Fame)The ‘extraordinarily good‘ 19-strong competition law team at FerradaNehme – ‘a benchmark in Chile‘ – routinely handles heavyweight investigations and antitrust litigation. The practice is also sought out for its expertise in M&A clearances, voluntary procedures, anti-dumping, safeguarding and compliance. The department is co-led by famed specialist Nicole Nehme (‘very clear in her analysis‘), whose 360-degree practice includes proceedings before Chile’s Supreme Court a well as the TDLC; Benjamín Mordoj, who advises clients on a preventive basis, as well as acting in cases involving cartels, abuse of dominant position cases and concentration operations; and highly rated litigator Diego Hernández. The enviable second line of practitioners comprises former FNE lawyer Mabel Ahumada, and competition and unfair competition litigation expert Tomás Pérez, who were both made partners in May 2021. At director level, Josefina Campos advises on matters involving joint ventures and mergers, as well as abuse of dominant position cases; Catalina Íñiguez assists with preventive advice, litigation, investigations and concentration operations; Raffaela Corte is routinely involved in mandates involving both regulated and non-regulated markets; and Beatriz Hidalgo is a competition law and regulations specialist. Former of counsel Carolina Oñate moved to UK regulator Ofcom in July 2021.
Chile > TMT
The seven-strong TMT practice of FerradaNehme consistently advises on telephony markets, pay-TV, internet and FTA television, e-commerce, data protection, and cross-border transactions involving technological services. Other areas of expertise range from technological transformation processes, to compliance, antitrust, IP, IT law, tariff-setting processes, and related administrative procedures and litigation. Group head Nicole Nehme has longstanding regulatory law and telecoms expertise; consumer law specialist Stella Muñoz is active in TV broadcasting regulation work; and of counsel Sebastián Dufeu assists with telecoms-related actions and investigations brought before the Chilean Antitrust Court. Recently promoted associate director Sebastián Morales is a telecoms regulatory expert; while at senior associate level, Nicolás Morales regularly advises television market clients, and Catalina Frigerio -who joined from Amazon Spain in April 2021- focuses on preventative advice. Former director Jessica Matus left the firm in May 2021 to join the Internet Society’s Chilean Chapter.
Chile > Dispute resolution: litigation
The eight-strong, complex-litigation department at FerradaNehme leverages the firm’s enviable expertise in antitrust, competition and economic regulatory matters to advise a broad clientele primarily on disputes concerning civil and consumer law issues, environmental law, regulated market matters (particularly telecoms) and unfair competition. The group is jointly led by competition and regulatory expert Nicole Nehme; civil, commercial, and economic litigation specialist Nicolás Ubilla; and Marcela Rodríguez (promoted to partner during 2021), who routinely acts in large civil, commercial and consumer disputes. Also on hand is civil and commercial litigator Pablo Cornejo, a recently promoted associate director of the contentious practice.
