Career

Henry advises on all aspects of Jersey trusts, foundations and estate planning and related corporate law issues. He is widely experienced in both local and international will and probate matters and has particular expertise in the administration of high net worth and multi-jurisdictional estates as well as complex succession planning and will drafting.

Henry deals with a broad variety of clients and has been advising for many years on estate planning, will drafting and estate administration. He provides advice and assistance on the creation and ongoing operation of private and commercial trusts including the drafting of trust instruments, supplemental documentation and the establishment and use of family offices and private trust companies. For Jersey based clients, Henry also provides advice on post death issues such as forced heirship, the registration of immovable wills, probate applications, tutelles, the role and rights of executors, heirs and beneficiaries, lasting powers of attorney and he also acts as a Court appointed Delegate for a number of incapacitated clients.

When dealing with clients who are internationally based, Henry advises on complex private international law issues such as the construction and validity of wills, domicile issues and the situs and ownership of assets from a pre and post death point of view. The Ogier Estate Planning, Wills and Probate team, led by Henry, is highly experienced in registering foreign powers of attorney and providing will and probate services for clients who have assets in the Island or for families who are dealing with an estate where there is a Jersey asset that requires administering. Henry also advises in relation to complex restructurings, corporate migrations and philanthropic structures.

He regularly presents on a variety of topics within his field and regularly contributes to a number of publications both locally and further afield.

Prior to joining Ogier in August 2019, Henry worked for over 8 years in the international private client group of another major law firm in Jersey. A graduate from the University of Edinburgh Henry has also worked in a top tier private client team in London.

Ogier‘s private wealth team works alongside the firm’s corporate, funds and private equity practices to support HNW families seeking to set up trusts in Jersey, advising on the establishment and management of complex trust structures and private investment funds, with an increased focus on ESG investments. Beyond trusts, the practice has assisted with setting up Jersey-registered charities and other philanthropic vehicles, as well as building up its ties to clients in the Middle and Far East. James Campbell and Josephine Howe jointly lead the practice, advising professional trustees and family offices on all aspects of Jersey trusts, with the latter also providing support in regard to charitable structures. Katherine Neal is the group’s employee incentives specialist, advising on employee reward schemes, pension plans and JPUTs, while Henry Wickham handles matters relating to estate planning and issues concerning wills.
