Position

Ben is head of catastrophic injuries as a partner at Osbornes, and is recommended in the Legal 500 and listed as a ‘Leading Individual’ in Chambers & Partners. He acts exclusively for claimants who have suffered life-changing injuries of the utmost severity, including spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, fatalities, amputations and injuries caused by medical negligence. Ben has a special interest in early rehabilitation issues for the seriously injured, and pursues defendants for initial compensation payments from the outset to establish effective care and therapy regimes. He regularly contributes to the national media on issues such as cycling safety and spinal cord injuries, and lectures on issues involving compensation and civil procedure.

Career

Admitted 2002. Joined Lyons Davidson 2002-06, became head of technical claims unit. 2006-08, Shoosmiths. Joined Stewarts Law 2008-10 exclusively handling very high-value brain and spinal cord injury claims. Joined Prolegal 2010 as head of complex litigation, and Osbornes in May 2013.

The team’s workload has particular emphasis on fatal claims; misdiagnoses and failure to diagnose; birth injuries; child and adult obstetric injuries; and ophthalmic claims. In addition, the team has a specialism in spinal injury work, with Ben Posford being described as the ‘undisputed powerhouse’ of cauda equina cases. The team also has a clear focus on diversity and inclusion, with fifty percent of its partners being female. It is also standout for its proportion of bilingual fee-earners and its resultant ability to comfortably assist clients for whom English is not their first language.
