Career

As a partner in our Intellectual Property (IP) group, Helen Xia focuses her practice on contentious and noncontentious IP matters, involving trademarks, copyrights, patents, unfair competition, and IP licensing.

She brings in-depth experience in IP litigation, portfolio management, obtaining and enforcing intellectual property rights, and commercial licensing in a wide range of industries. Helen has strong experience in IP litigation and has represented clients in administrative, civil, and criminal IP litigation in China, including obtaining several victories for clients before China’s highest court, the Supreme People’s Court.

In addition, she has also regularly advised clients on their domestic and global IP portfolio management, developing brand protection strategies and enforcing their intellectual property rights. The clients she represents are from a wide range of industries, including construction, mining, fashion, food, multimedia, telecommunications, information technology, and entertainment.

Helen also serves as a director of Hogan Lovells (Shanghai) Intellectual Property Agency Service Co. Ltd., our China IP service affiliate, through which the firm conducts much of its IP work in China directly.

She is qualified to practice both in the People’s Republic of China and the state of New York (United States). She has obtained a bachelor’s of law (LLB) from Shandong University and a master’s of law (LLM) from Peking University. She has also obtained an LLM from the University of Michigan (United States). Prior to joining the firm, Helen worked at a boutique IP law firm in New York. Helen is a native speaker of Mandarin Chinese, and is also fluent in English.
