Career

Patrick Haas is a partner and lawyer at AKD who specialises in dispute resolution with a focus on complex cross-border collective redress claims.

Patrick has assisted various claim foundations in bringing mass damage claims, including the diesel emission scandal and the truck cartel case, involving more than 15 car manufacturers, and against EY for its role in the Wirecard scandal.

Professional litigation funders enjoy working with him due to his business-oriented background, his thorough and high-quality analysis of all relevant aspects of complex cases and his innovative approach towards international collective redress.

Patrick also acts in complex disputes between stakeholders of larger companies, such as shareholder disputes and cases relating to directors’ liability. The cases that Patrick deals with typically involve complex issues of (international) corporate law in which the parties involved have widely divergent interests.

Patrick sees it as his task to find long-term solutions and to ensure that conflicts do not escalate needlessly. He prefers to do this without having to go to court. Thanks to his legal and financial skills Patrick is able to achieve optimum results for his clients by using creative strategies.

In Chambers Global Edition 2023 a client said: ‘Patrick Haas stands out as particularly experienced and knowledgeable in complex disputes’. Other clients praise him as ‘an excellent lawyer in the field of claiming damages for harmed parties.’ One client recently said the following about him: ‘Patrick is a litigation expert to whom the old adage of ‘walk quietly and carry a big stick’ most applies. This is a man you are lucky to count as your friend.’

In addition to his day-to-day practice, Patrick regularly gives lectures and workshops at several universities and professional training institutes and he is an experienced speaker in panels during international conferences on collective redress.

Education

Patrick Haas earned his degree in Dutch Law from Erasmus University Rotterdam, where he went on to complete a European Master’s Degree in Law & Economics before attending the University of Ghent, Lund University and the University of Stockholm. He was awarded an MBA from the Rotterdam School of Management in 2002.
