Career

A partner with more than 20 years of professional experience, Alexander is leading the real estate and restructuring & insolvency teams of DPC and also heads the banking & finance practice of the firm. He is brilliant in structuring and negotiating project finance transactions, acquisition finance, restructuring and insolvency. He has tremendous experience in advising major real estate deals, as well as in acquisitions of companies with significant real estate portfolios. Recently, he advised big Israeli real estate investment fund in the acquisition of a top-notch hotel and seasonal properties in the winter resort of Bansko.

Alexander has also been engaged in litigation and arbitration proceedings in numerous commercial disputes. As a member of DPC’s legal team engaged by the Bulgarian National Bank, Alexander was involved in the insolvency procedure of the largest commercial bank in Bulgaria. He worked on the legal analysis of the credit portfolio of the bank and led to a successful outcome a number of lawsuits against the bank’s debtors. His expertise has been of essence for obtaining the first license for an investment firm, issued by the Bulgarian Financial Supervision Commission under the rules of the Directive on markets in financial instruments (MiFID II).

For more than seven years Alexander has been teaching Real Estate Law in Sofia University as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law. Alexander is deeply interested in Orthodox Christianity and holds a master’s degree in Theology.

Boyana Milcheva, who is considered ‘one of the most respected real estate lawyers in the country’, leads the practice alongside Alexander Todorov, who has extensive experience in real estate-related transactions and disputes. Pavlina Ivanova is another key lawyer in the team who primarily focuses on real estate and foreign investment matters.

Dimitrov, Petrov & Co is hailed as having ‘simply exceptional’ expertise in dispute resolution. The team covers commercial and regulatory litigation and arbitration, cross border debt recovery cases and public procurement procedures. The team delivers first-rate expertise in disputes in the energy, IP, real estate and employment sectors, due to the firm’s full-service approach. Following the departure of Metodi Baykushev the practice is now jointly led by Pencho Stanchev, who specialises in dispute resolution, arbitration and energy law and litigator Encho Simeonov, who has extensive expertise in the medical malpractices field and was promoted to partner in March 2023. Other key team members include Alexander Georgiev, who received a promotion to senior associate in March 2023, Alexander Todorov and Donka Stoyanova.
