Gómez-Acebo & Pombo draws from a specialised banking and finance department to advise on a range of shipping matters, with an emphasis on acting for shipping and charter companies, banks and finance institutions. Apart from these key clients, the firm also exhibits a strong relationship with shipbuilders through its Vigo office, acting on relevant agreements. Leadership of the practice is divided between asset finance expert Carlos Rueda and Miguel Lamo de Espinosa. Supporting the team’s efforts in relation to asset financing operations is Fernando Herrero. Vigo-based partner María García De La Concha Álvarez handles a spectrum of shipbuilding matters. All named lawyers are based in Madrid unless otherwise stated.
Gómez-Acebo & Pombo has a strong track record of advising on the lender side of financing transactions, with a client base that includes major Spanish and international banks and investment funds. The team has significant experience in large refinancings and restructurings and is also highlighted for its project finance expertise, particularly in the renewable energy and infrastructure sectors. The practice additionally extends to corporate finance, real estate finance, asset finance and investment fund matters. The sizeable team is led by Miguel Lamo de Espinosa, an expert in restructurings. The ‘exceptional‘ Verónica Romaní and of counsel Vanessa Armas are key contacts for project finance; Rafael Aguilera is noted for restructurings and was recently appointed as lead of the real estate finance practice; and Fernando Herrero is experienced in asset finance matters. London office head Ferran Foix and Santiago Gómez-Acebo are also names to note.
Gómez-Acebo & Pombo‘s ‘extraordinary‘ team stands out for its expertise in advising lenders on major restructurings and handling high-profile transactions in the Spanish market; large-scale insolvency proceedings are also prominent in the group’s workload. Miguel Lamo de Espinosa leads the restructuring side of the practice, and other key contacts include Rafael Aguilera, London-based Ferran Foix, Santiago Gómez-Acebo and newly promoted partner Paula Zarzalejos.
