Career

Peter Hammerich has been a partner and head of BAHR’s Asset Management & Private Equity practice group since 2005. Since 2022 Peter is also chair of BAHR.
Peter advises leading Norwegian and international asset managers, including fund managers within all alternative asset classes (such as private equity, venture, infrastructure, debt and real estate), financial institutions, investment banks, insurance companies, pension funds, and sovereign wealth funds. He is frequently instructed on compliance, fundraising, human capital, ESG/sustainability, M&A, tax and regulatory matters for all types of asset managers, as well as disputes involving asset managers. He is recognised in independent ratings as one of the leading Nordic advisors in these fields.
Peter is an active participant in regulatory discussions and policy matters affecting the Norwegian asset management industry, and frequent speaker at seminars. He is chairman of the Norwegian Alternative Investment Association and chairman of several of the leading asset managers in Norway.

Given the impact of the AIFMD on the industry, it is also worth noting that Peter was a member of the Working Group appointed by the Ministry of Finance to draft a proposal for the Norwegian Act implementing the AIFMD in Norwegian law.

The practice is headed up by the ‘exceptionalTarjei Thorkildsen, who is sought after for his expertise on pensions and cross-border employment issues, regularly acting for international blue-chip companies; while deputy head Tor Olav Carlsen, who was recently promoted to partner, acts for a diverse group of employers and senior executives. Norway > Regulatory, compliance and investigations

BAHR draws on the firm’s transactional and corporate capabilities and routinely assists clients with day-to-day corporate compliance, sanctions issues, international investigations, and transaction-related due diligence work. Under the leadership of Morten Smørdal, who has extensive experience in handling transaction and project development-related compliance issues, the ‘incredibly sophisticated‘ team has seen a recent increase in instructions relating to due diligence and the new Norwegian Transparency Act. Other core members of the team include asset management compliance expert Peter Hammerich and Jon Christian Thaulow, who handles regulatory and compliance work for clients in the energy sector. Annina Luterbacher departed the team in 2023 and is now at Advokatfirmaet Schjødt AS.

Norway > Tax

The ‘impressive‘ tax practice at BAHR assists with a wide range of tax-related issues, including corporate tax work, complaints and transfer pricing matters, and has ‘excellent sector knowledge‘ of the oil, energy, shipping, real estate and private equity spaces. Practice head Joachim Bjerke is a ‘first-class tax lawyer‘ who focuses on international tax work, transfer pricing issues and structuring M&A transactions. The group also includes real estate tax expert Anne Sofie Bjørkholt, litigator Jan Jansen, who is an authority on the special petroleum tax regime; and ‘excellent adviser and litigatorSimen Skjold Søgaard. Peter Hammerich and Camilla Jøtun both advise on tax work relating to asset management and private equity issues. Other notable practitioners are Helge Olav Bugge, who handles tax disputes and matters relating to the special tax regime for hydro power, and VAT specialist Camilla Hammer Solheim. Nils Flesland Bull and Knut Ekern joined the practice in early 2024 from Harboe & Co AS.
