BAHR fields a broad and competent employer-focused practice, and provides an ‘outstanding professional standard‘ on pensions issues and matters relating to the financial sector. The practice is headed up by the ‘exceptional‘ Tarjei Thorkildsen, who is sought after for his expertise on pensions and cross-border employment issues, regularly acting for international blue-chip companies; while deputy head Tor Olav Carlsen, who was recently promoted to partner, acts for a diverse group of employers and senior executives. The team also includes Margrethe Meder, who has particular experience in issues relating to hiring, working time, redundancies and lay-offs; Peter Hammerich, who is a pensions expert; and Børre Sofus Arnet, who works closely with private equity clients.

BAHR draws on the firm’s transactional and corporate capabilities and routinely assists clients with day-to-day corporate compliance, sanctions issues, international investigations, and transaction-related due diligence work. Under the leadership of Morten Smørdal, who has extensive experience in handling transaction and project development-related compliance issues, the ‘incredibly sophisticated‘ team has seen a recent increase in instructions relating to due diligence and the new Norwegian Transparency Act. The ‘impressive‘ tax practice at BAHR assists with a wide range of tax-related issues, including corporate tax work, complaints and transfer pricing matters, and has ‘excellent sector knowledge‘ of the oil, energy, shipping, real estate and private equity spaces. Practice head Joachim Bjerke is a ‘first-class tax lawyer‘ who focuses on international tax work, transfer pricing issues and structuring M&A transactions. The group also includes real estate tax expert Anne Sofie Bjørkholt, litigator Jan Jansen, who is an authority on the special petroleum tax regime; and ‘excellent adviser and litigator‘ Simen Skjold Søgaard. Peter Hammerich and Camilla Jøtun both advise on tax work relating to asset management and private equity issues.
