Demonstrating ‘outstanding knowledge of the Portuguese legal court system‘, PLMJ‘s dispute resolution group also attracts praise for providing ‘excellent advice in major cross-border litigation cases‘. Its recent workload showcases the group’s strength in representing public entities and multinational corporations from the energy, construction and infrastructure sectors in high-value arbitration proceedings heard in Portugal and abroad. Corporate and post-M&A disputes are other core areas of focus for the department, which is also well versed in antitrust private damages claims and financial litigation. The sizeable team is under the leadership of three partners: Joaquim Shearman de Macedo, who has significant experience in judicial cases and arbitration involving shareholder, construction and insurance disputes; Pedro Metello de Nápoles, a key contact for ICC arbitrations; and Rita Samoreno Gomes, whose major areas of strength include banking and financial litigation. The latter is among Pedro Caetano Nunes‘ legal specialisms, while Nuno Líbano Monteiro is highly regarded in civil litigation. Ricardo Silva Pereira, who brings together expertise in civil and commercial litigation, as well as restructuring and insolvency, joined from Linklaters in May 2022.
