BonelliErede handles transactions involving the acquisition, management and disposal of both large and small real estate portfolios in the office, retail, industrial, residential and leisure sectors, and also assists with the establishment of major real estate investment funds in Italy. DLA Piper’s ‘extraordinary’ team focuses on commercial and residential real estate, including advice related to student accommodation, senior housing, social housing, data centres, hospitals, schools, corporate occupiers, and hotels and leisure. Recent highlights include assisting Savills with an investment into the redevelopment project of the dismissed Milan rail ring and advising Kryalos, the investment platform of Blackstone in Italy, on a number of acquisitions for real estate funds All Star and Hortensia. Olaf Schmidt is ‘always one step ahead on his way to get the deal done’, while Paolo Foppiani has ‘great understanding of the client’s needs with the specific adjustments of the Italian system’. Gianni, Origoni, Grippo, Cappelli & Partners combines longstanding experience in corporate, capital markets and taxation matters with deep expertise in zoning and building regulations, real estate financing and environmental protection work. The team assisted Varde with an acquisition of the entire accommodation facilities portfolio of Italian luxury hotel group Boscolo and Rome-based Domenico Tulli advised property developer CDP Immobiliare on the implementation of a planned acquisition of privately held quality resorts and hotels in Italy. Davide Braghini is also noted.

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer’s recent key highlights include assisting the subsidiary of Dutch insurance company NN REI Investment I BV with the acquisition of a portfolio of high street retail properties in various Italian cities through a real estate fund, and advising TPG Real Estate and its partner Ivanhoé Cambridge on the sale of European logistics warehousing business P3 Logistic Parks to Singaporean sovereign wealth fund GIC, which included a number of logistic properties located in Italy. Marzio Longo provides ‘top level legal advice’.

Legance - Avvocati Associati’s ‘excellent’ real estate lawyers advised the sovereign wealth fund of the government of Singapore, GIC, on the acquisition of logistic platform P3 Logistic Parks from TPG Real Estate and Ivanhoé Cambridge. Assisting real estate market leader AXA Investment Management with the acquisition of an iconic 25,000sqm office building in Milan is another key highlight. Administrative law expert Giuseppe Abbruzzese and Rome-based senior counsel Marco Mastrorosa are highly recommended.

Allen & Overy - Studio Legale Associato’s recent high-profile deals in the real estate arena include assisting Hines with its €50m investment in an historical property in the centre of Milan, and advising a sovereign investment fund on its €150m investment in Coima Opportunity Fund II. Counsel Carlo Merisio has a ‘deep understanding of the peculiar Italian commercial real estate legal framework’.

Studio Professionale Associato a Baker & McKenzie’s ‘excellent’ expertise includes M&A, corporate, taxation, public law and corporate finance advice. The practice advised Rosewood Hotels and Resorts on an agreement with a subsidiary of state-owned Cassa Depositi and Prestiti (CDP) for the management of an ultra-luxury hotel and branded apartments. Sviluppo Immobile Milano Centro and Neinver are other notable clients. The practice advised Crédit Agricole and Edf Invest on the establishment of a real estate fixed-capital investment society (SICAF) by Italian property developer Beni Stabili SIIQ, as well as on the purchase of 40% of the SICAF. Dentons is highly adept at advising on real estate-related M&A, financings, restructurings, investments and fund formation, as well as on development and construction matters, town planning and environmental and regulatory compliance. The practice assisted Boscolo Group with its sale, along with a portfolio of nine luxury hotels, to US fund Varde. Starwood and Savills are other key clients. Gatti Pavesi Bianchi Studio Legale Associato’s real estate expertise spans the acquisition and disposal of assets as well as the establishment of real estate investment funds and joint ventures in Italy and abroad. The group advised Edison on a preliminary agreement with IDeA Fimit for the sale and re-rent of its office in Milan, and assisted Tikehau Capital with the acquisition of the shopping gallery of Turin’s Area12 shopping centre. Jones Day’s ‘strongly supportive’ team recently advised global investment management firm Baring on its acquisition of a shopping centre in Asti, and assisted luxury real estate company Coach with the purchase of a high street retail business branch in Via Montenapoleone, Milan, as well as with a lease agreement for a branch in the Florence city centre. Matteo Troni is highly recommended.

Molinari e Associati focuses on large real estate development deals, acquisitions and sales of parcels of land and real estate portfolios as well as on town-planning, construction matters and licence-related issues connected to real estate transactions. Ugo Molinari and the ‘excellent’ Alessandro De Botton assisted Blackstone with the acquisition of several Italian properties of General Electric (GE), as part of its acquisition of GE Capital’s European and US real estate portfolio for a total value of $23bn.

Nctm Studio Legale’s areas of strength in the real estate sphere include financing, investment and taxation matters, fund formation, acquisitions and disposals, land use, and environmental, planning and development issues as well as construction and leasing. The practice advised Gazeley Italia on the sale of a portfolio of three logistics assets and two buildable lands in the north of Italy. Krause Holdings and AXA are other key clients. Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe handles all aspects of real estate work across the commercial, residential, leisure and industrial sectors. The practice assisted BNP Paribas REIM with the acquisition of 15,000sqm of prime residential and commercial real estate assets in the centre of Milan on behalf of the Fundamenta fund. The ‘very cohesive and client-orientedStudio Legale Padovan advises Italian general contractors on construction contracts, joint venture agreements, subcontract agreements, consortia agreements and turnkey contracts in Italy and abroad. The ‘charismatic, focused, and solution-oriented’ Marco Padovan assisted the contractor Salini Niarchos with a €320m project for a cultural centre in Greece, and advised construction company Pessina Costruzioni on the award and implementation of a €200m healthcare facility project in Iran.

Carnelutti Studio Legale Associato’s recent highlights include assisting BNP Paribas REIM, on behalf of HITA1 Fund of Hayrish Italia, with the acquisition of the famous Milan building Garage Traversi from Banco Popolare, and advising funds Augusto and Valore Immobiliare Globale, managed by asset management company Castello, on the sale of six properties to Kryalos through the Camelot fund. De Berti Jacchia Franchini Forlani specialises in contractor agreements, town planning, real estate investments and financing, leases and leasing, and sale and purchase of properties and property portfolios. The practice assisted STS Alpresor AB with the purchase of a hotel in the Italian Alps, and advised Ikea Purchasing Services Italy on a lease agreement concerning the company’s offices in the Milan area. Osborne Clarke provides ‘expert advice and great services’ on real estate investments and financing as well as on fund structuring and formation, contentious real estate issues, development and regeneration and construction contracts. The practice advised Osborne Rosotel on the purchase of a property for office use located in Naples from Fondo Atlantic, and handled the debt restructuring of Cassina Plaza Milan 1, 2, 3 and 4, which arose from a 2006 loan requested by the clients to purchase several properties.
