Highly rated in Italian banking law for LBOs, public bid financings and takeovers, BonelliErede's team also assists borrowers with syndicated loans, bilateral loans and large-scale corporate loans as well  as property financing and restructuring. The project finance team is highly active in the hospitals, infrastructure, oil and gas, and energy and renewables sectors. Highlights included advising Autovie Venete on the negotiation of a ‚ā¨600m financing to enlarge a motorway connecting Venice and Trieste.¬†Giuseppe De Simone¬†and Matteo Bragantini¬†co-head the banking and finance practice and¬†Ottaviano Sanseverino¬†is project finance head. Latham & Watkins LLP is 'quick to respond with clear and client-led advice'. It fields lawyers who are experienced in acquisition finance, corporate lending, leveraged finance and debt restructuring. The team advised Bain Capital Private Equity on the financing to acquire, through Fedrigoni Holding, Gruppo Cordenons, an international manufacturer of high-end specialty papers for luxury packaging and premium publishing applications. Marcello Bragliani leads the Italian banking and finance department and Andrea Novarese, who 'will work tirelessly to get the right result', has expertise in areas ranging from leveraged and acquisition finance to restructurings and senior secured lending, Mauro Saccani and Antongiulio Scialpi (the latter recently hired from Linklaters) are key counsels.

Legance - Avvocati Associati¬†covers¬†leveraged, acquisition, mezzanine project and real estate financing, as well as syndicated loans and securities lending transactions. Guido Iannoni Sebastianini¬†advised Enel on a revolving credit facility that was made available by a Mediobanca ‚Äď Banca di Credito Finanziario-led banking pool. DLA Piper 'anticipates future issues and finds the right solutions'. The team advises on leveraged and corporate lending and is regularly involved in major syndicated lending transactions; it is also highly regarded for project financing and real estate finance. Federico Zucconi Galli Fonseca led advice to Four Investments on a financing from UBI Banca and Banco BPM for the acquisition and development of a hotel in Milan. Antonio Lombardo heads the corporate and finance department in Italy; other highly rated practitioners are Francesco De Gennaro, Agostino Papa, Giovanni Ragnoni Bosco Lucarelli, Francesco Ferrari, Ugo Calò and Francesco Novelli. Claudio D’Alia is a key legal director, and Chiara Anceschi and 'highly prepared banking lawyer' Giuseppe Mele were hired from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and BonelliErede, respectively.

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer is particularly focused on leveraged finance, structured finance, debt restructuring, project finance and financial services. Emiliano Conio heads the Italian banking and finance group; Conio advised Carlyle Group, as borrower, on the financing for the acquisition of logistics assets in northern Italy. Corrado Angelelli has extensive experience in structured finance and Francesco Lombardo is a key senior associate.

Gattai Minoli Agostinelli & Partners advises on all types of lending and financing transactions, including domestic and cross-border matters. Lorenzo Vernetti advised HIG White-Horse and Tikehau Capital on the bond refinancing of Savio holding companies. Riccardo Agostinelli and Gaetano Carrello, along with Marco Leonardi and structured finance specialist Emanuela Campari Bernacchi, are also highly rated. Andrea Taurozzi and Valentina Lattanzi were promoted to the partnership.

Norton Rose Fulbright is particularly strong in the energy, infrastructure, shipping (and other transport), real estate, and life sciences and healthcare sectors. Arturo Sferruzza heads the Italian banking and energy teams and Gennaro Mazzuoccolo  has a strong focus on the shipping sector.  Elisabetta Negrini and Luigi Costa were promoted to of counsel.

Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe's Patrizio Messina leads the firm's Italian finance group and Gianrico Giannesi  is deputy head. The team advised Snam on a high-value financing for a pipeline that will transport gas from Azerbaijan to Italy. Other key advisers are project finance and shipping finance expert Raul Ricozzi, Madeleine Horrocks, who regularly handles project finance, and Annalisa Dentoni-Litta, who is highly specialised in public asset finance. White & Case (Europe) LLP¬†has¬†extensive experience in leveraged loans, syndicated loans and real estate loans, as well as private debt transactions and structured finance. The team¬†assisted Piaggio & C. with its dual-tranche ‚ā¨250m financing, which was granted by a group of lenders.¬†Giuseppe Barra Caracciolo, Iacopo Canino¬†and Gianluca Fanti¬†are highly rated, while¬†Michael Immordino's¬†practice is based jointly in London and Milan. Alessandro Nolet¬†was a new hire from¬†Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton.

Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton is experienced in advising on complex financing arrangements, including bespoke alternative refinancing, as well as the restructuring of debt obligations; the firm's Italian offices also have a well-established financial regulatory practice. Carlo de Vito Piscicelli led advice to Sogefi on the refinancing of its senior bank debt. Giuseppe Scassellati-Sforzolini, Pietro Fioruzzi and counsel Claudio Di Falco are other names to note.

Dentons hired project finance expert Giovanni Diotallevi and structured finance specialist Gianpaolo Garofalo from Chiomenti and BonelliErede, respectively. The team advises on acquisition and leveraged finance, structured finance, general corporate lending and refinancing, performance guarantees and security packages, and is highly experienced in real estate financing; the practice assisted X-Elio Energy with the bid for the design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance of a solar plant. Alessandro Fosco Fagotto is Italy banking and finance head; Dina Collepardi and Andrea De Luca Picione are notable managing counsels.

Hogan Lovells International LLP's Carlo Massini's practice includes corporate finance, acquisition and asset finance, project finance, PPP, infrastructure and real estate finance transactions, as well as loan portfolio transactions. The client list includes Forno D'Asolo and Dana.

'Providing a commercial and strategic view', Nctm Studio Legale handles large banking and financing transactions for private equity firms and global borrowers, and regularly advises on cross-border transactions that involve the UK and the US. The practice handles Islamic financing matters in Italy as well as project finance. Highlights included advising WEX and WEX Europe Services Holdings on the amendment of an existing facility agreement. The 'highly competent and professional' Eugenio Siragusa heads the banking and finance department; Stefano Padovani and Giovanni de’ Capitani di Vimercate are also highly regarded.

Pedersoli Studio Legale's department, led by Maura Magioncalda, is best known for its expertise in acquisition finance and complex corporate finance transactions; the team is also increasingly involved in real estate finance deals. Studio Professionale Associato a Baker & McKenzie recently advised Borgonuovo on the refinancing of existing debt; BPER Leasing is a client. Alberto Fornari and Ludovico Rusconi are the key contacts; Giorgio Telarico  joined as counsel from Studio Legale RCC.
