Career

Ana Teresa Caetano leads the Firm’s International Trade practice group from our São Paulo office. This internationally recognized group was established by Mrs. Caetano in 2001 and is unique in Brazil, boasting some of the leading trade experts in the country. Under Mrs. Caetano’s leadership, Veirano Advogados became the first law firm in Brazil to independently assist the Brazilian Government at the World Trade Organization (WTO) Dispute Settlement Body (DSB). She continues to provide unparalleled advice on interpretation of WTO agreements and expertise in handling WTO litigation.

International and Brazilian companies in the chemical, petro-chemical, consumer products (footwear, wine, paper and beauty products), automobile and food processing industries rely upon her ability to provide strategic counsel across the myriad of complex issues that arise in trade and customs. Mrs. Caetano has successfully handled numerous cases at the local, regional and multilateral level ranging from consultation and analysis through to litigation. Among her respected clients are Asociación Gremial de Vinos de Chile (Chile’s Wine Association), Brazilian Association of Electric and Electronic Industries (ABINEE), Bayer, Braskem, BRF, CROCS, Embraer, Jeri Group, PUMA, Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA) e a World Federation of Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI).

Mrs. Caetano regularly advises Brazilian and international companies on trade remedy investigations including dumping, countervailing duties, safeguards and anti-circumvention. She consults on import licensing, valuation, classification, and rules of origin issues and procedures. Mrs. Caetano is also deeply experienced in assisting foreign companies in setting up a trade business in Brazil that is subject to trade remedy investigations or measures, helping them maintain or gain market access.

Mrs. Caetano also provides consulting on bi-lateral and regional trade agreements affecting Brazilian and foreign companies. She represents the interests of certain industries in the negotiation of these trade agreements.

Internationally experienced, Mrs. Caetano offers significant trade expertise gained from her four years as a trade consultant at a top U.S. law firm, working closely with leading International Trade practitioners. In addition, she focused on international trade issues during her LL.M year at Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, DC.
