David Wilkinson

David heads Eversheds Sutherland’s IP practice in the UK. He handles both contentious and transactional IP work and has for many years been ranked as one of the leading lawyers practising in this field.
David has over twenty years’ experience of handling IP litigation and transactional work across a wide range of industry sectors, including technology, media, consumer goods, financial services and FinTech.
David has extensive trial experience and has appeared as a solicitor- advocate before the English High Court, the Court of Appeal and the Court of Justice of the European Union.
He regularly advises on IP-heavy acquisitions, disposals and licences, including some of the most high-profile deals of recent years.
David and his team also advise on advertising and marketing regulation and on libel and reputation management issues for corporates and financial institutions.

Eversheds Sutherland (International) LLP’s offering encompasses the full spectrum of IP rights, as well as recent involvement in software copyright and breach of confidence disputes, notably within the financial services sector. David Wilkinson leads the team, having previously led the IP team at Ashurst; Wilkinson handles a variety of contentious and transactional IP work, while legal director Kate Ellis bolsters the practice with her expertise in managing trade mark and design portfolios. Lisa Highet advises on all aspects of IP law and brand management, while Alexandra Emery specialises in transactional matters. Indradeep Bhatacharya‘s practice focuses on high-value patent litigation across a range of areas, including pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and energy. Anette Gärtner joined the team from Reed Smith LLP in January 2023.
