Career

Lisa Taliadoros has more than 20 years’ experience acting in contentious IP matters across various industries including biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, animal health, consumer goods, building, mining, and IT. Lisa’s trademark experience includes acting in the Federal Court of Australia in relation to the ownership of peanut butter trade dress, and in proceedings concerning trademarks in the retail petroleum sector. Lisa is also renowned for her work in multijurisdictional patent disputes, including in relation to biologics, CRISPR gene editing, the BRCA-1 (breast cancer) gene, and small molecule treatments for conditions including depression, diabetes, hypertension, cancer and rheumatic & related skin disorders. These cases include a number of landmark High Court cases concerning the patentability of genetic material and of methods of human treatment. Lisa has a BSc/GradDipSc majoring in pharmacology and immunology and prior to her legal career worked in scientific research at two of Australia’s leading research institutes. Lisa is a member of the Board of Governors at the Centenary Institute of Cancer Medicine & Cell Biology.

Lisa is also a member of the IP sub-committee of the Business Law Council of Australia, where she chairs the patents sub-committee and is the Committee’s representative on the Commonwealth Government’s Patents Consultation Group.  Lisa is the partner in charge of Jones Day’s Melbourne office and leads Jones Day’s Intellectual Property Practice in Australia. She is the Jones Day Australian Diversity, Inclusion & Advancement Chair.
