Carey Olsen Singapore LLP
10 COLLYER QUAY #24-08

Singapore > Offshore Tier 1

Carey Olsen Singapore LLP has grown considerably in the last two years; it now has the largest litigation team amongst the offshore firms in Singapore, landing a high proportion of shareholder disputes that fall under Cayman and BVI law. Restructurings and insolvencies are also a major forte for the group, which has a strong focus on the China market. On the transactional side, the Singapore team is active in corporate and M&A deals, capital markets offerings, financings and investment fund formations. The group is also active in capital markets including those by SPACs and Southeast Asia-based unicorns looking to fundraise on US exchanges. In the funds segment, it advises a range of private equity, hedge, venture capital and special situations funds. Bilateral secured financings for Chinese and Southeast Asia banks are also a feature of the Singapore practice. Anthony McKenzie heads the Singapore office and the Asia corporate practice. James Noble leads the litigation, insolvency and restructuring team in Asia.

Practice head(s):

‘This is the A-team for offshore litigation in Singapore, specialising in British Virgin Islands and Cayman Islands dispute resolution, with an emphasis on company law disputes, corporate insolvency, cross-border enforcement and high-value business disputes.’

‘With the largest offshore litigation practice in Singapore, Carey Olsen provides efficient and pragmatic solutions. The team is highly responsive, from partners to associates, and I appreciate the hands-on approach.’

‘Strong across the board but Anthony McKenzie has a particular China focus which is helpful for a firm like ours and a standout among similar service providers.’

‘Anthony McKenzie – practical, commercial, contactable and responsive.’

‘Anthony McKenzie is a good listener and builds enduring relationships with clients and relationship firms.’

‘James Noble (partner) and Amelia Tan (senior associate) are two of the outstanding individuals within Carey Olsen that I would speak highly of to others. Both are technically solid, business savvy and always responsive. James is an all-rounder with insightful experiences in offshore jurisdictions, Hong Kong and Singapore.’

‘James Noble – the lead partner and head of dispute resolution at Carey Olsen – has tremendous legal acumen (never loses the big picture vision but is disarmingly on top of the detail as well) – beloved by his clients. Kate Lan – the powerhouse of the Carey Olsen Singapore dispute resolution team. Amelia Tan – brilliant with clients – has a fabulous eye for detail and seemingly unstoppable energy. Joni Khoo – up and coming, and a great team player – has a fabulous eye for detail and seemingly unstoppable energy.’
