Position

As a Counsel in Bird& Bird’s Helsinki-based Intellectual Property group, Mikko Nurmisto specialises in advising clients on a broad range of IP issues.

The IP Group handles both contentious and non-contentious IP matters. In particular, Mikko has specialised in copyright, trademark and marketing law issues. Since joining Bird & Bird in 2013, he has also gained experience in drafting technology and other IP related agreements and assisting in litigation. He has also conducted a number of IP due diligences and assisted in regulatory matters as well as giving lectures and training for clients and IP professionals.

Career

Mikko has experience advising clients across various sectors. Due to his earlier profession and experience within media, he has a strong interest in media and communications issues. Before joining Bird & Bird, he worked for several years as a professional journalist on the economics desk of a Finnish daily newspaper. This experience has provided him excellent research and writing skills that have been proven very useful in his daily work at Bird & Bird.

The IP litigation department at Bird & Bird is headed up by Henri Kaikkonen, who ‘masters the legal issues relating to patents’, trade mark and unfair business practice disputes, brand protection work, and IP licensing agreements. The team frequently acts in trade mark disputes and enforcement work (areas of focus for Mikko Nurmisto), R&D and licensing issues, trade mark portfolios and disputes, as well as patent infringements.
