Career

Melanie is Simpson Millar’s head of Court of Protection and has more than 10 years’ experience in this area of law.

She acts in cases concerning residence and care disputes, mental capacity, deprivation of liberty applications and decisions on serious medical treatment.

Melanie also specialises in complex cases concerning capacity, sexual relations, contraception and marriage, and has represented vulnerable adults, children and their family members in Judicial Review applications of Public Law decisions.

Before becoming a Solicitor, Melanie worked at a local council, the Department for Work & Pensions and at a community mental health team. She also spent time working at a Women’s Aid refuge as a support worker.

Memberships

Melanie is a member of the Executive Committee of the Court of Practitioners Association (CoPPA).

She is also a Law Society accredited Legal Representative (Mental Capacity) and an external Law Society Assessor for the accreditation scheme.

Leisure

Melanie enjoys live music and attending summer festivals, as well as yoga and going to Italy.
