Career

L.Viswanathan is a Partner at Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas’ Mumbai Office and Chair of the Finance, Project & Bankruptcy Practice. He has rich experience in Infrastructure and Energy Projects, Project Finance and Banking and advises India’s leading corporate and financial institutions on infrastructure projects and banking and finance deals, and has particular expertise relating to regulatory aspects of major energy projects.

Viswanathan advises leading banks, financial institutions and private credit providers as well India’s largest corporates on a broad range of transactions including structured lending, corporate debt restructuring, strategic debt restructuring and recovery of loans and investments.  He is currently advising on many insolvency proceedings under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016.

Viswanathan has acted on a number of landmark transactions, including advising the Indian lenders on the restructuring of the Dabhol Power Project (2001-2005) and advising the syndicate of lenders including State Bank of India, International Finance Corporation, Asian Development Bank and other national and international financial banks/ agencies in the 4000 MW Mundra Ultra-mega Power Project (2008), which is the first project to be financed by offshore lenders post Dabhol. Viswanathan has advised the syndicate of lenders in the refinancing of the acquisition financing obtained by Tata Motors for acquisition of Jaguar Landrover Limited (2009 – 2010). In the roads sector, Viswanathan has advised clients with respect to several road projects in India, including the KMP Expressways Limited (the largest and the longest road project in India) (2006 – 2007). He has advised the developers with respect to the privatization and modernization of the Mumbai International Airport (2006-2008) and the syndicate of lenders financing the Delhi International Airport (2007-2008).
