Career
Daren Shiau, BBM, PBM, co-heads of the Firm’s Corporate Department, and his specialisation is in an antitrust. He is Co-Head of the Firm’s Regional Co-Head of Competition & Foreign Investment Review.
A leading regional competition law specialist, he has been frequently referred to as “Singapore’s top competition” lawyer and “senior stateman of the Singapore competition bar” who is respected by competitors and clients alike.
He is the only Singapore competition lawyer ranked an ‘Eminent Practitioner’ by Chambers.
Daren’s deal book of ground-breaking transaction practice covers antitrust litigation, international cartels, monopolies and dominance, and global merger control.
He has been a lead advisor in a predominant majority of Singapore’s merger control cases (including the majority of all complex Phase 2 Reviews), successfully represented appellants in a watershed Competition Appeal Board matter which overtured the Singapore competition agency’s decision on liability and successfully defended parties in 100% of Singapore’s international cartel decisions to-date.
He is District Councillor of the Central Singapore District. For his contributions to the nation, Daren was conferred the Public Service Medal (Pingat Bakti Masyarakat) in 2016, and the Public Service Star (Bintang Bakti Masyarakat) in 2022.
